Board Of Higher Secondary Education – Meghalaya State:
Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) first started in 1974, but after 1996, when the University (NEHU) discontinued the Pre-University course, it was taken over by the Board, since then all the financial matters, relating to SSLC and HSSLC branch were being dealt by the Board itself. Due to the increasing number of students per year, the workload is also increased. After 1996, the Board is handling all the academic matters related with the framing of the syllabus for all the classes, including SSLC and HSSLC. MBOSE is committed to quality education for the holistic development of all students, culminating in attaining excellence in their lives, so that they will be a blessing to the society and the world at large. It started functioning in the Office of the Director of Public Instruction, Shillong which was later shifted to Araimile, Tura in the year 1974. MBOSE also has a regional office located in the state capital of Shillong. At present, there are about 1400 affiliated schools spread across the state of Meghalaya.
A total of 42,807 students had appeared for their Meghalaya Secondary School Leaving Certificate Exam last year. Of the total number of examinees, 23,248 sailed through the exam, while 19,559 failed to take the overall pass percentage to 54.31%. Regarding gender rivalry, girls managed to score 83.38% compared to 73.86% of boys. East Khasi Hills emerged as the top performing district with 78.18% while the South Garo Hills was deemed as the worst performer with 22.67%.
